Always working....

I don't use artificial comb in my hives. I figure the honey bees know best when it comes to making the comb they need. This way the cells of the comb are perfectly fitted--the right size and shape for the honey bees.

Just let Mother Nature do what she does best.

So...what's happening here? Honey bees will build comb wherever they have room and feel comfortable doing so. It's called burr comb and can become quite a mess inside of a hive if left unchecked.

I removed this comb from the hive, then added the rest of the frames (evenly spaced) to the hive to prevent burr comb.

The apiary

Still cleaning up and prepping the area for the honey bee's permanent home, but this temporary spot has some benefits.
