From Fabric to Paper: Draping the Basic

Draping is a form of pattern making. In this workshop participants learned how to make a basic (a dress) beginning with a piece of muslin, on professional dress forms in full and half-scale, including mapping out their designs on muslin.   Participants also learned the basic elements of paper pattern making. 

From Fabric to Paper: Princess Dress

Participants learned how to make a princess dress on professional dress forms, including mapping out their designs on muslin.  

From Fabric to Paper: Pencil Skirt

Participants learned how to make pencil skirts on professional dress forms, including mapping out their designs on muslin. 

Vintage Designing

Participants learned how to mock up vintage classic dresses using couture techniques, elements and hand sewing skills, including hand-picking zippers. 

Hand Sewing

Participants learned the basic elements of hand sewing, essential to couture, including how to wax thread, use a thimble and hand stitch an array of stitches for seams and hems.  

Drawing Fashion Sketches

Participants learned how to make fashion croquis, make fashion sketches and made mock client mood boards.  The class included inking, pinning and water coloring. 

Vintage couture apron

Participants learned how to make aprons using vintage patterns and adding couture elements to the aprons.

The magic of natural dyeing

Participants learned how to use natural indigo dye and turmeric on natural textiles using Japanese Shibori techniques. Participants also learned how to set up a indigo vat, make an organic indigo “mother” and how to make turmeric dye.   

Fabric Dyeing: Rust Dyeing and Natural Inks

Participants learned how to use rust to dye and decorate natural fabric, incorporating threading, waxing and Shibori elements into the designs creatively as desired. Participants also learned how to make a series of natural inks using oak galls, blueberries and avocados. 

Fabric Dyeing: Shibori Dyeing Sumi Inking

Participants learned how to set up an indigo vat, dye Shibori-style and also learned how to make ink using a charcoal stick and practice sumi inking with india ink. 

Mother Nature’s Lost Color

Participants learned how to use flowers, bark, grasses and leaves to dye and decorate natural fabrics using bundle dyeing and Hapa-zome methods. 

Creating Fabulous Fabric

Participants learned how to decorate fabric using hand painting and stencils. Participants also were taught how to dye textiles using indigo.

Grow Mushrooms at Home

Participants learned how to cultivate oyster mushrooms on hardwood logs. 

Creative meditative art: doodle, tangle and Draw

Participants learned how to make Zentangles, a meditative-style of drawing and doodle. 

Creative meditative art: mandala

Participants learned how to make madalas, a meditative-style of drawing originating from India. 

Pollinators: Butterflies

Participants learned how to make butterfly feeders using gourds I grew, painted it and made seed ballons to take home.  Participants helped make a salt lick on the farm.  

It’s so easy being green

Participants learned how to use cover crops to replenish soil, make natural fertilizers and teas, in addition to learning about composting.  Participants also made a worm farm.  

Mother Nature’s Lost Harvest

Participants learned how to make natural teas and both culinary and bath salts using flowers, herbs, salts, sugars and essential oils.

Watercolor and wassail

Participants learned how to make the holiday drink wassail then sampled the drink and snacks while receiving water coloring instructions for painting holiday bulbs and trees. 

Spice it up with tea & cocoa

Participants learned how to make a variety of natural teas and unique chocolate cocoas
